20D new bird here.
I have a 50mm F1.8 already, would you get a : 1) 28 -75 F2.8 2) or a 28 - 135 USM IS Assuming price is not an issue and main use is for portraits. |

Try EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 USM or EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM (if budget permits)

That's a toughie ... the 28-135mm gives you IS (let you cheat a bit ... only a bit on the lowest hand-holdable shutterspeed) and gives you the extra reach as compared to 28-75mm which gives you a constant aperture of f/2.8 which is very useful for portraiture ... I'll probably take the 28-75mm if I take portraitures most of the time and don't really need the extra reach ...

Tamron SP 24-135mm... cheap, sharp, and cheap.
AF a bit slow and noisy but it's cheap. Did I say it was cheap? |

K... guys.... thanks
After days of hearing your comments. I am set on a 28-75 F2.8 which no one seems to want to release in the Marketplace, so goin to buy new one later. I am dying to try on my 20D... i have not taken a single shot yet.... |

IMO, while the constant f2.8 is nice, i would prefer the extra reach. besides, the 28-135mm makes a good walkabout lens. and, like adam said, the IS allows u to cheat a bit. ![]()
