Default Good and Cheap portable storage

Hi,

Need advice on which one and where to get any cheap and portable storage ala Nikon Coolwalker (but w/o the hefty pricetag?) to 'empty' my CF cards while on the go?

Preferably about 20 gb or so.

Thanks

bought a CompactDrive PD7X from EastGear recently, priced at $399 with a 40GB harddisk. transfer speed is good and it runs on 4xAA batteries.

How's the performance especially the reliability of this gadget. Do u encounter data corruption or lost of data upon transferring of ur photos. What flash memory ur using? CF,SD,MS,Microdrive etc. Recently a lot of topics concerning the issue about this here in Clubsnap and DPReview. Maybe u can give us ur own personal experiences about this gadget. Thanks.

if you're referring to the CompactDrive, so far i haven't run into any data loss issues, but i've not put it through any kind of stress testing either. the CompactDrive comes with a verification feature in the sense that you can see the number of files and the amount of data that has been transferred (but not the files themselves of course - hook it up to a computer for that).

as with all harddisk-based storage solutions, do bear in mind that the harddisk itself is susceptible to knocks and vibration damage. try not to use it when traveling on a bumpy road.
