eurekaw - who owns the rights to the photos, once given to u? also, how much are u or ur portal company paying the photographer(s) in terms of fees and royalties?

i expect a number of us will be asking u these questions, and more, soon.

This portal is cater to Singapore Community (under developing by Eureka Works). It provides lots of services that we need in our daily life. We are looking for hobbist who wants to exhibit their photographic work on the site. It can be faces, scenery, etc but have to be in Singapore context. The photos will not be commercialised, is purely used on the site. In other word, your work will be seen and appreciated in public and nationwide.

Our portal is not for photography community. We are using relevant photos to add on to our portal catering for different services.

You are asking for free photos to post on your website, and your website provides service of daily life.

So do you charge ppl for using your service of daily life?

We are only keen to work with hobbist who wanted to exhibit their work in a bigger way. If you want to add in your name to advertise yourself e.g courtesy by Mr xxx, we're pleased to do so. Presently, the portal is still under construction and will only be launched end of the year. So sorry for not disclosing too much at this point of time. For those commercial photographers who don't wish to be a contributing photographer, we would suggest to discuss your services after the launch of this portal.

Can we pass some photos to you stating it is not for commerical usage or be displayed within a commerical website which directly or indirectly promoting the service of the website?

yes. your photos that send to us is definately not for us to sell as we dont cater such services to the public. It's mainly used for our portal development

So is the website for charity or community service? Our photos is posted to your website in order provide service? What type of service and does your website earn anything from the service you provided? Care to answer my doubt?

I see, but commericalisation of Photo does not only mean selling the photograph, but also mean using the photograph to indirectly selling your product or services.

For example, a travel agency setting up a website to sell their services as tour guides locally, putting the photograph of the sceneries, living condition, street photos are indirectly promoting your service as a tour guide.

Similarly, if you are selling houses, especially to non-Singaporean, and putting the photographs of sceneries is a way to tell people the living condition of Singapore, thus indirectly selling your houses through the photographs.

There are a lot of ways the photographs can be commericalised, not just by selling it.

This is not to discourage people from providing you with photographs, but also to caution you on the possible impact, both ethically (since you had mentioned it is not for commerical purposes and will not be promoting your website) and legally (Since it is not for commerical purposes, if you use the photograph to indirectly promote your services or website, you are legally infringing the copyright of the photographers and liable for lawsuits).

hi, eurekaw!

don't mean to be rude or wat. however, if u're not willing to disclose the purpose of collecting and displaying photograhpers' pics on your website, i hope u do understand why there's a fair amt of suspicion from CSers. we have too many instances of pics from CSers (high quality pic, i might add) who are purely amatuers being leached onto other unsavoury websites. there's even a case where the CSer, out of good will, pass his photo to a newspaper (becos the newspaper photog couldn't get a good pic). his photo was published by the paper without giving the CSer the due credit. worse, the paper actually had the balls to put the newspaper photog's name onto the pic.

if u really wish to engage CSers' help, i think you can help urself by being a bit more forthcoming with info abt ur website.

Our portal is a commercial portal providing our own services but is not selling of any contributing photos. Relevant photos are only used to 'decorate' the site.

You get pictures = free because contributed from photosigs.
You earn money from the website by providing service, with photos contributed from photosigs free for decorating your webiste.

I don't think this will work. Even web designers search for photos and pay for it in order to use it for their website development.

The photos used are indirectly selling your services.
I can sell u any of the photos on my website, but not given for free though.
