Default Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX DC(NEW)

Did anyone bought this new release lens(canon mount) and how's the lens performance? Cos im thinking of getting one instead of the 18-85 f4-5.6 IS USM. Thanks

I was told that there is vignetting at the 18mm end, but it is only on the minor side. But if you are asking for a overall performance of the lens, I have got no idea.

i tried the F2.8 and the el-cheapo version. find that for the 2.8 version when its stopped down to 3.5. the picture is not as sharp compared to the el-CHeapo... and the price is far a lot of differents.... unless you are a ambient light shooter.... if not.... be like me get the el-cheapo!!!! el-cheapo rox!

The smaller the f stop number is, the faster ur shutter can go. 2 stops difference means the shutter speed is 2 times 2 = 4 times faster/slower.

Find that the AF for the 2.8 version really slow. It is significantly slower than the el-cheapo 3.5-5.6. You can test it out first to see what i mean, just check out the sound of the body's AF motor.

~$180. It's pretty sharp at the centre but quality drops off towards the corners. Very good performance for its price.

hmm... thought of getting the 18-50/2.8 but if it's really slow and not as sharp, then would not

Default 18-50 Sigma 2.8 EX DC

I purchased this lens two weeks ago using it on a Canon 10D body. I find the lens sharp and fast. I shoot NASCAR events and find this lens cleaner and faster than the Canon 28-80 I replaced. I think the only way you could get better performance would be to step up to the Canon L series.

300D Kit lens: EF-S 18-55mm f/3.6-5.6

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8
Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6

There are 2 versions. Of cos, the f/3.5 is cheaper den the f/2.8 version.

But if I got the moola nw, I'll whack it on the faster lens, or even the 17-40 L lens. But no money now to fool around, guess I'll stick to my current kit and continue to drool over the L and other lenses.
