Post Nneed to turn off camera when changes lenses?

    Just a quick question :

Shall we need to turn off camera when changes lens?

If not turn off, what will it happen to camera?

it depends on whether i remember to turn it off. if not, nothing will happen to the lens nor body.

i see most of my seniors around changing lens without switching off their cams.

No need. Have been shooting since 1973 from SLR to DSLR. No problem. Don't worry just enjoy shooting.

Apparently, you have to be careful with lenses with IS. When you half press to focus, the IS is activated. If you happened to remove it when the IS is still active, there is a possibility of damaging the IS mechanism. If not, most of the time, they are safe to remove without turning off.

Another myth is that when you don't turn off your camera while removing lenses, the twisting motion of the lens for removal might cause other contact points to short the lens and camera circuit for a second. Personally has no problem so far.

Read your manual.. is there something stated there? I can't remember that I have turned off my camera when changing lenses, simple not necessary. And he myth of short-circuiting contacts is easily busted. Look at the way the contact terminals are designed. The pin connections are listed somewhere in the Internet.
Btw: try to find a speaking thread title, using 'Canon' in the Canon subforum .. well.. suboptimal...

I think I recall reading it somewhere about the sensor being a dust magnet when it's powered up...I prefer to off the power before changing lens, thou at times forgot to off. but like others mentioned, both way, so far so good

If your IS is active, you willl most likely damage your IS unit.

been discussed since the start of time. yet there's no improvement of such.

think you are too smart to answer, please DO NOT waste your time writing a reply.

there are many others willing to help.

i know many of you are helpful in your own ways, but sometimes, it's just a minor question that people need to clarify.

there are a few of you, that has been dissing newbies everytime a new thread comes up. whatever for?

CS has clear guidelines that say SEARCH before you POST.

So you're also saying that uncle catchlights is wasting his time too:

Like you said, it's a "minor" question, as such it's been asked so often that it is a real shame to waste all the contributions of the past. Yes, a forum is there to share knowledge, but you should NOT let the knowledge that was ALREADY shared go to waste!
