Default Shadow

Under dpreview's preview of the 20D- the view on the pop up flash is this

"Higher pop-up flash
The EOS 20D now has a flash which raises considerably higher than the EOS 10D, it now has a claimed FOV coverage of 17 mm. It also uses E-TTL II flash metering which utilizes lens distance information to improve flash power calculation.''

however i was doing some test shoots with the the 17-40mm (with the lens hood on) and when i shot with the built in flash, a shadow is perpetually cast at the bottom of the image, presumably caused by the lens hood.(no sign of the shadow cast when hood is taken off.)

while exposure is good with e-ttl 2 which works as advertised, is it really necessary for me to get an alternative lens hood or do i simply just have to wait for the speedlite to come about.it looks like the pop flash wasn't high enough to rid the shadow on this one.

ho hum

I'd seriously recommend external flash opposed to the built in one. Much more versitile.

Yeah confirmed. You bringing all your expensive toys down? 85mm f/1.2 should be fun.

Bo pian, flash is essential. If you're weight conscious then get a 420EX when you want to travel light lor. Quite cheap second hand now, and can use as slave.
