I was trying out the SB-800 on the D70, and found out that there were be a series of pre-flash firing before the actual flash fired. Why is this so? This is so annoying
when you are taking portrait photos, the model would think that the photo has been taken when he/she saw the pre-flashes, and start to blink his/her eyes or move around. |

i think that would be the AF assist? just turn off AF assist and de pre flash should go away...

if I'm not mistaken, that is how iTTL works...or is it the red eye reduction turned on?

It is not the AF assist. The pre-flashes are a necesary part of i-TTL flash to determine the correct exposure. As HOCL mentioned, you can try using FV lock.
