Default Things to look out for in 2nd hand 10D?

Hi all

I am going to view and hopefully purchase a 2nd 10D later today. First time buying a DSLR (I have a EOS 30) so not too sure what to look out for (eg any different version of firmware for 10D?). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, fortunately, the camera is still under warranty so can take back to Canon if there's anything wrong....

Thanks in advance.

Hi.

Urgh ... you could have told us earlier ... maybe one of us could tag along ...

Anway, check whether all the buttons and knobs work, bring a lens along to test it out, if you have a speedlite, bring it along to test the hotshoe connection, check for dust on the CMOS (don't expect a squeaky clean one but don't worry, if it's really that bad, you can still send it for cleaning). As for firmware version, it doesn't really matter; it can be upgraded easily, bring a CF card ... blah ... blah ...

Sincerely wish you and seller have a win-win conclusion today!

Thanks Adam. Is cleaning free if under warranty?

Last time I heard ... basic cleaning yes but if the dust is stuck in between the sensor then no ... can anyone confirm this?

The seller mentioned around 2.30pm. Should be meeting around M Hotel or Amara Hotel.

I read somewhere that it's free to replace shutter when under warranty. Is that true?

If its under warranty, you could send it in for servicing or cleaning. Free.

Actually, yeah, since you are buying 2nd hand, it might be a good idea, too.

Hi again.

PM me your number ... I'll see what I can do ... may be going out for some fresh air ... but no promises though ...

Anyone's coming along too? Can turn this opportunity into a lesson in getting used cameras ...

It used to be free for sensor cleaning if it is still under warranty. Now, I don't think it is free anymore. Heard it costs ard $25 to clean it.

I think to be fair to the seller, it is best not to call so many pple along. May look intimidating to see a group arriving to spot check camera. One experienced guy to help out should be more than enough.

I have asked the seller to bring everything. I don't have a lens so I asked the person to bring a lens and CF card for testing.

So Adam, will you be free for coffee?
