20D @ $2581 in KL

just came back from KL Malaysia, saw 20D at window of a camera shop in SS2 Petaling Jaya, went in and ask casually for the 20D body price, was quoted 5800 Ringgit = S$2581 at current exchange rate of 2.247 (no GST in Malaysia), cash payment.

I LOVE Malaysia!!!!

then the warranty how? still can go back to canon in singapore if anything wrong?

will canon singapore service a set bought in malaysia for free as long as it's still under warranty?

hmm tt time someone told me no international warranty leh... i juz read the warranty terms on my warranty card (my unit is sg unit) n it states only in singapore (limited warranty). I suppose it should apply to malaysia and any other country units as well?

I think Canon products in Japan come with 6 mths international warranty and 1 year of local warranty.

sure, you meant DSLR is in this category? The last I know, no DSLR comes with any international warranty.

Haha...Malaysia a few hours drive from Singapore anyway...take leave and send it up there if anything goes wrong!

But if the price is true then it's really pretty attractive!

From what I understand about Canon's warranty system is that the default is 1 year local warranty for cameras, but will be honoured by most Canon agents around the world for the default 1 year warranty period. It's some international agreement which I read somewhere before.

International warranty of 6 months can be asked for when purchasing a camera in Singapore, and this will replace the 1 year local warranty provided. The purpose of this is if the country you bring the camera to after sales is not covered by the abovementioned warranty agreement.

Better to call up Canon Singapore and double check to see if they will honour the Malaysian warranty, because I know they do honour the Hong Kong and USA 1 year warranties.

actually by looking at the official LIST PRICE you can tell already,

Body only

Singapore = S$3099
Malaysia = RM 6199 = S$2759 (rate S$1=RM2.247)

already S$340 difference in list price, so street price is lower in Malaysia too.

so go grab one at RM5800 (or less)!

i think it shud be true. already other forums i read new 20D owners got their kit at US$100 cheaper than when first arrived. if u want the local price to drop, buyers need to unite & dun buy it at this time. let the retail shops wake up from their idea first.

I believe a few months back Olympus announced that henceforth all its digicams will come with an international warranty. That should include their DSLR.

Camera body as far as I know is warranty in the country of purchase. You can try asking the Canon JB office for service?

Canon Malaysia only provide local warranty.
