Default A couple of Woodpeckers from Ubin

Although I have seen them several times before, this is one of the few times I have managed to get close enough to get some photos. The first is a Rufous Woodpecker, as it was busily chipping away at the bark to get at insects, all I had to do was find an unblocked view to take some shots (which is easier said than done).

Commonly seen pose - tucking in the tail feathers for leverage while chipping away with its head to get at is food.

The second species of Woodpecker found in the same area is the Laced Woodpecker. This guy is much larger than the Rufous Woodpecker and seems to prefer coconut trees with termites. It is more shy and fidgety, making it a challenge to get it when it is out in the open.

Hey, great shots. Always have problems with branches blocking, hence lousy light levels and problem shooting etc...
