It is not. I am not sure what you mean by semi fisheye, but the 10-17mm has a 180 degrees field of view at 10mm so it is a fisheye.

A 16mm fisheye will not retain fisheye effect on CF cameras. Unless TS is planning to pair it with his film camera. He is using a Pentax K-r, my understanding is that's digital.

It's designed for full-frame and film cameras. You lose the effect on smaller sensor cameras.

Here's the fisheye pictures I've made with the Pentax 10-17mm fisheye.

If you use anything other than 10mm you will not get true fisheye output, but at 10mm, it's fisheye, as mentioned earlier.

With $800 budget, definitely DA 10-17mm. Small and light, got AF.
My photos - see just some or all of it =)

DA 10-17mm is a fisheye at 10mm. Its a 'semi fisheye' at 17mm

Yes, they are the same lens, rebranded for various sellers.

With 10mm your feet can be included in the picture if you are not careful. Anything less than 10mm, you may have to hold the camera at arm's length.

With pentax's own offering of the 10-17 at such cheap price, i dont think there's any other alternative given that you have the budget.

Here's what i was told by the shop in JB specialized in pentax gears, and i'm quoting the guy: "The 10-17 is the best selling lens among all the more expensive pentax lenses"

Just look at the offerings from Canikons, they are basically fix focal lengths with sky high prices.
