Invisible Photographer Asia (IPA), a platform for Street Photography and Visual Journalism in Asia, officially opens the IPA Gallery with the STREET PHOTOGRAPHY ASIA Exhibition.


The STREET PHOTOGRAPHY ASIA Exhibition features the 20 winning and finalist photographs from the inaugural IPA Street Photography Contest held in April to June 2011 to celebrate IPA's 1st year anniversary. The international photography contest drew 3,400 entries from across Asia, including Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Taiwan, and South Korea amongst others. Indian photographer Karan Vaid won 1st place with his photograph The Colt Attacks.

Also featured in the exhibition are the photographs of Asian street photographers Ying Tang from China, Junku Nishimura from Japan, and Kevin WY Lee from Singapore. Ying Tang's work has been featured internationally, and most recently in the notable Street Photography Now book, alongside Bruce Gilden, Martin Parr and Alex Webb. Ying is currently based in Cologne Germany. Junku Nishimura is a street photographer from Tokyo with a huge cult following amongst the Flickr and photography community. His work has been featured internationally, and most recently on the Leica Camera blog and the Tokyo-Ga Charity Photo Book. Kevin WY Lee is a documentary and street photographer in Singapore and founded Invisible Photographer Asia (IPA) in April 2010. In a short span of 12 months, IPA has grown into one of the most influential platforms for documentary photography in Asia.

The STREET PHOTOGRAPHY ASIA Exhibition takes place at the new IPA GALLERY at 77 South Bridge Road #02-01 Singapore from 8th August to 8th October 2011.

Meet JUNKU @ The IPA Gallery

Meet cult Japanese Street Photographer JUNKU NISHIMURA (aka junku-newcleus on Flickr) at the IPA GALLERY at 3PM 6PM, Saturday, 6th August 2011. The session will include a slideshow presentation of Junku's street photographs and his 'If I Had Wings... After The Tsunami' photo essay, and an informal Q&A and meet & greet. A selection of Junku's photographs will also be available as prints for sale at SGD$95 each.
