Though similar in looks to a female Olive-backed Sunbird, a female Crimson Sunbird is distinguished by the reddish tinge on the throat.
A common behaviour in sunbirds is that it is quite sedentary to an area and each sunbird will often visit its own favourite flower, as observed in the behaviour of this bird at MOG. This was taken this morning at MOG at the cafe area. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Reddish tinge under its throat ![]() Comments are welcome. Cheers |

very nice pics. not easy to get good background when shooting the bottlebrush tree. Great example of how lighting/angle plays such a big difference to the background. I prefer the first 2 because there are less leaves and thus cleaner. the Bottlebrush is only at a better angle.

Thanks Ewinx for your comments.
ccplim, thanks the bottle brush is at the end of the cafe towards the toilet area. This was one of the most relaxing nature photo take. I just set up at the cafe, ordered breakfast and a coke, then just wait and shoot while enjoying the ambiance make a friend with chinese gentleman from Vancouver. And later joined by sree. Here's another shot ![]() |

Very nice pleasing shots with clean contrasting coloured backgrounds. Prefer the first two pics, the bottlebrush flower and sunbird stands out more, but thats just my personal opinion. Good to see you back in action, my friend.

I prefer the 1st set too. For the second set, the green background appears a little too overpowering. Still, they are pleasing to my eyes.
All I can say is that such pixs are very inspiring for budding birders like me. |

I will be glad to correct the first thread if it can be 100% established that it is a male juvenile Crimson. Once again Thanks.Garion, you are right. I too find that the Bottlebrush flower stands up more, as red is the dominant color. A picture of a full bodied Crimson with this flower would be great. Thanks Jeff you have a great series too. Thanks Caussway, glad you like it. |

Hi..
I prefer the first set. I didnt mind the clutter of leaves in the second set but the colors looked a little too intense. Both sets are great tho. By the way... where is MOG? Thanks |
