Question D70 - which CF?

I'm looking at getting one of those faster CF cards for use in D70. Are there significant differences between the brands - e.g. lexar 40x vs scandisk ultra? Which brand is preferred for D70?

Be it whether it's Lexar 80x or Ultra II... which ever gives you the best value for money is the one you should get.

You won't be able to "FEEL" the speed difference between the 80x and Ultra II

I believe the WA on the 40X will win the Ultra II.

I did a quick test of the two, both 512MB. Put it in continuous mode and rattled off 15 shots, the Lexar 40x did it in like 16.8 seconds and the Ultra II in 11.8 seconds. Not a super controlled environment, had the camera on my desk and just held the shutter, swapped the cards and did it again.

Hi, my personal experience is using a D100, D1X, D2H at continous RAW bursts (CH for D1X/D2H) using both a Lexar 40X 1GB and a Extreme 1GB. All three results show that the lexar beats extreme by 3-5s. Thus my conclusion

If you are really concerned about speed of CF card for your D70, have a look here for a more controlled and extensive review of the various models

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...?cid=6007-6816

Not much of a difference between SanDisk Extreme, Ultra II and Lexar 80X (or other cards in the top 10%) - with the SanDisk cards leading the way. The Lexar 40X (even the new and improved version) is out of the top 10% in performance.

Edit: Do note that there are slight differences in speed between jpeg and RAW shooting.

For ur reference, I am using the D70 with 2 x Ultra II 1GB. Continuouse mode with JPEG Fine I can hit about 14 frames before the speed slows down due to write bottleneck. Write time leh, u can look for the above posting, too lazy to measure

The above speed is more than sufficient for me. Not sure if u needed more I guess either Lexar 80x or the Ultra II/Extreme will do for most of the pple, minus those pro who need the speed or pros wanna be.....or speed measurebators or too much time or $ to spare

i have the 1st generation sandisk and the lastest generation (extreme), no much difference (based on feeling) for single shot.
for continously picture, make sure you got a fast motor lens before you consider the card speed.
D70 is a fast camera. why not save money for more capacity. i prefer shot in RAW, so capacity is important than speed to me.

Thanks, folks, for all the contributions. I'm actually looking at the lexar 40x - I don't really need super-ultra-fast cards for my type of usaga. Was just wondering is there a particular brands to look out for...

cheers,
