Default Lantern Festival at the Chinese Garden

Went to see the lanterns at the Chinese Garden last night, it was hot and humid but not too crowded. I suspect it will be more crowed this weekend as the Mid Autumn festival draws near.

Anyway, below are a few photos I took, I would very much appreciate some constructive comments.

Camera – Canon 20D, Lens – EF 24-70 F2.8.

PS work to saturate, shadow/highlights, crop and very low USM applied)

Image 1. (F3.5, 25mm, 1/160s, Iso 400)

Image 2 (F3.5, 38mm, 1/125s, Iso 200)

Image 3 (F2.8, 70mm, 1/30s, Iso 400)

This is the one I am most interested to hear your opinion, there is a lot of negative spaces I have included. Does this work from your point of view?

Thanks

I think that Image 3 had too much empty space already. If you dun wish to crop, maybe you put in a chinese peom in the empty space. Or write something about Mid Autumn Fest~
I think it will look nicer =)

Too much negative space for the last shot. Rest are ok.

L-MoLe - Thanks for your suggestion. I was also thinking on that line.

chenwei - Thanks for the input, I do agree that the pavilion pic has been done. BTW you have very nice pics of the lantern festival. Actually it was yours that inspired me to go to the Chinese Garden. Yes it was handhelded. I did bring my tripod, but did not see a need to use it as it was bright enough.

xmen2003 - Thanks for the input, appreciated.

I like the second shot, makes u look deeper into the photo

If u did't mention it was the Mid Autumn Lantern celebration, i would have guess it was digital art.

Now that you mentioned it, it does, doesn't it (blacklight). Thanks for you comment. BTW below is one that for some reason I quite like. It is more abstract.

Image 4. (F3.2, 68mm, 1/25s, Iso 200)

Thanks

Thumbs up Re: Lantern Festival at the Chinese Garden

Image 1- interesting but static and not noteworthy
Image 2- Beautiful with a lot of movement
Image 3- Negative space in a photo has to make sense and be visually interesting. Negative spaces tell a story of their own. So, didn't like it
Image 4- Love it. Lovely lights, lovely composition. lovely colours.
