Unhappy Bad experience with D70

Just bought a brand new D70 yesterday.
After initial setting (clock, language etc), turned off.

After a while, the control panel became blank, with background light on.
Now the camera wont boot when I turn it on... no response at all.

I tried the 'reset' at the bottom. I can get to the menu and turn on the camera after reset. but whenever I try to take picture, the "Err" message appear. The manual says if you see this message -- liao...
And again, after turned off, took out and put back the battery, the control panel is just blank with background light on... nothing else I can do except reset.

I guess this is really bad luck of me as I cant seem to find any such complaint or problem on this camera..

Real bad...
Havent take a single picture and tonite have to go back to the shop again.

PS: Anyone have any suggestion/advise is welcomed.

I got my D70 almost six months back. So I guess that would be from the first batch.

I put everything in auto and was shooting. Couple of days later it simply stopeed fuctioning. Called Nikon and they agreed to replace it. In few days time I got a replacement. So far no problem with second set.

I purchased my set from MS color. They were also willing to have a one to one exchange. So no need to worry. Plenty of options are on.

when i bought my D70 i also very scared that i might buy a 'problematic' one, but luckily it's ok... dun worry, just go n exchange.... n never compromise if they want you to send in for repair

Get it exchanged from the shop. Never accept the "repair at Nikon" suggestion. Shouldn't be a problem if you get it done fast and early.

Huh? You exchange at the shop, and the defective set just go back into the stock, and the next unlucky guy will get it. and the cycle go on and on, until one guy brought it to Nikon and get it serviced.

Do you think that's possible?

I don't think so. The shop would likely get an exchange from Nikon. The shops still has got reputation to uphold. Unless of course, the shop happens to be the "fly by night" kind.

That's totally possible, done it many times for many things, not only for cams. They will in turn exchange with the main distributor or even the manufacturer.

Else exchange it for something else in the shop with similar or higher value.

This is shopping common sense actually.
