This is a question that is best answered with a long and technical answer.... Here're a couple of sites to start you off:
    http://www.jseaman.com/articles/srgb.html
    http://www.petapixel.com/2009/09/17/...bably-use-srgb

Long story short: stick to sRGB unless you know what you're doing.
My photos - see just some or all of it =)

my philosophy is that unless u know the difference and how best to bring out the advantages of the alternative, just stick with the default.

its not a question worth pondering. could be cos they have special monitor / printer that needs aRGB? maybe they have a workflow optimized for aRGB? maybe their work requires it? or maybe they just feel more shiok to be different? who cares...
