Question Which lens to get?

i'm looking at 2 lens for my Nikon F65 which is within my budget of $700;
1) Tamron 24-135mm f3.5-5.6
2) Sigma 24-70mm f2.8

i'm in a dilemma as to which lens to get.
intend to use it as a travelling lens mostly for landscape and potraits.

can u guys give some comments on the AF speed, sharpness, distortion, etc of the lens.

thanks a lot!!!

Also consider the Tokina AF 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 ATX Pro II. I think AP is selling it for $500 or so. Focusses pretty quick. Build quality is excellent, more so than the 2 you mentioned.

24-70 f/2.8 is having filter size 82mm, right? Expensive if you want to use filter, and I prefer to standardize my filters to 77mm the largest.

That's not a very good lens. Or at least that's what I am told by people who've used it.

Do you already have a lens to cover the 35 - whatever range? If you do, then get a 24mm prime. Cheaper and better than any of the zooms as well.

24mm prime should be around $550 or so. 20mm prime is about $850. The Sigma 24-70 is not going to give you the same performance as the 24mm prime, if the 24mm coverage is what's important to you.
