Lovely! Mesmerising! Love the colours in the 1st pic, but best is still Bishop Beach, esp with the inclusion of the tiny figure on the beach!
May I know is this a package tour or on your own or whatever? Thanks! |

Thanks for all the comments.
Alaska is indeed a very beautiful place. They call it the last frontier. However, I think my lousy skills and my bad timing(encountered their worst forest fire in history so a lot of places is smoky) did not do justice to its beauty. You can do a search for pictures taken by other better photographers and then you will realise its beauty. There is no package tour available. I go on free and easy. |

Songandester....
Went to your galleries. Very good shots there. I noticed that you went to NZ last Sept. Me planning to go there next month. Not sure whether to include Kaikuora in my trip. You have any experience to share? |

freefall7, Kaikoura to me is a place to catch NZ wildlife. There is a Whale Watch tour and you can catch a glimpse of a colony of seals over there. I did not explore the place much coz I got time constraints. The place which I would recommend a miss is Wellington unless you like museums.
Enjoy your trip, bring loads of film or memory cards, you will need it. ![]() |

I would highly recommend that you visit Kaikoura. Best if you have a couple of days to spend there. In our last visit two years back, we did a nightover in Kaikoura. There was only time to do the Dolphin Watch trip. This time round, we spent a total of four nights, taking it slow and easy. Some of the must-do in Kaikoura includes: 1) Whale watch 2) Dolphin watch 3) Kaikoura's fish and chips (best in this parts of the world if i may say so) 4) Summit view at dawn/dusk 5) Beach walk during low tide. 6) See-lion 7) Buying cheap lobsters at the local market (eat it boiled and naked) 8) A visit to Kaikoura winery I posted a pano of Kaikoura winery sometime back... albeit a poorly done one http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=83721 I know of a great place to stay. One of the cheapest you can get for a reasonable setup. Friendly host whom himself has dabbled a bit in cameras himself. Let me know if you need more info. Apologies to Song for intruding your thread. Last edited by tert; 24th September 2004 at 12:01 PM. |

Ack! you made it there!!
Lovely pics. I really wanted to go there. Even applied to the university of Alaska, Fairbanks to study Geology. But they screwed up my application and Georgia Tech sent me an acceptance package. I was all set on going. Can you imagine the beauty of that place? Denali national park, beautiful glaciers, the Northern lights almost everyday of the year. Even the Alaskan highway from fairbanks to anchorage is supposed to be one of the most scenic drives. AAArgh, i wanna go!! Oh yeah, did you know alaska recieves about 2000 earth quakes a year? |

I've camped at the Wonderlake Campground of Denali National Park for 2 nights hoping to capture Mt McKinley's sunset photos but the smoke just covered up everthing. However I captured some Grizzly and Caribou pics. Ya, the tidewater glaciers is just great. I will post some photos when I processed it. I wanted to capture the Northern lights on flim but I was too unlucky to catch it. The best time is September onwards. Ya, there is a lot of earthquakes there. The Ghost Forest is actually caused by a massive earthquake where the land sinks and the tree's roots got submerged in salt water. It kills the tress but the salt preserves the trunks. |
