the 50f1.8 is highly recommended here.
when new, it costs ~SGD180. can shoot at low light (indoor) without flash. im thinking of getting this one too i still have the Tamron 28-200mm (i think its this range which i bought long long time ago) when i started out for use with my old SLR. Seldom used now since i bought my D70 kit earlier this year. and i have added the 70-300 D lens a few months back (no banker to loan $$$ else will get the 80-200 f2.8). these 2 lenses serve most of my purpose. so i shoot shoot and shoot, D70 rocks!!!! ![]() |

Similarily, the value and worth of a lens is determined by your photographic requirements. |

Do you have the 18-70DX lens...It's a great lens...dun sell it. This with the 50mm can last you for a while. If you are into landscapes, get the AF-S 12-24 f4 DX IF-ED. It is an equivalent of 18-36mm in 35mm format. |

50mm f1.8 is cheap and good. I'm getting one soon.
28-200mm Tamron is conveniently good ranged, and is about $400+ new. Great for tours and some macro capabilities (can focus to 50cm away). For wide angle, 12-24 is great on DSLR, but on film SLR, 18mm will be good enough. Between the Nikon and Sigma 12-24, there are many who favour the Sigma as it is cheaper, full frame and in some reports, sharper. |

...50mm. Good lens but can't say much about the Tamron. Used it before but found the range too dark (200mm @ F5.6!). Also the lens coating leaves much to be desired. It's now sitting on my desk as a paperweight, reminding me to trust Nikon, only Nikon products for great value and quality.

Get the 50mm 1.8. Take it outdoor on a sunny day morning, find some nice subject and scene (a tree in a park, a chair in an alley, etc) then shoot at every aperture from f1.8 to f16, then you move yourself towards and away from the subject and repeat again. Then go home and see all the images. Then you will find out something about this lens, the bokeh, the DOF, the view angle, etc.
