Advice on Compact drive or Ext HDD OTG

Looking to get either the compact drive or a Ext HDD On the Go (OTG) type storage. Need advice which is more reliable. The compact drive cost about $80-100 more and has a LCD screen for viewing the pics. I really don't need to view pics just want the storage to function like an image tank and to be used as an ext HDD for the laptop.
Also need advice if the 2.5" HDD with 7200 RPM or 5400 RPM is optimal with USB2 or fire wire.
