Default Canon Printers - US vs local prices

It seems that Canon printers are far cheaper in the US than in Singapore. Is there any reason for this?

Pixma IP3000 $87.44 USD (Free Delivery from Amazon.com)
$229 SGD (Local)

What's up with the prices

i am not asking you guys to bring from overseas. The shipping obviously will kill the price difference since the printers are huge. I am just asking why local prices are so horribly overpriced when it doesn't even have free delivery to your house nor option to return.

The answer is simple. market population. with the market in the US of A at least a few hundred times larger than Singapore, it's obvious that they are able to profit from a lower margin.

True, the Singapore market is small - but retailers and OEMs (as well as property developers) have also known that there is definitely room for better margins here as well. Just look at the initial pricing strategy of high end CF cards, LCD monitors, MPS, plasma tvs, etc. Sim Lim Square pricing is even above Akhibara mostly nowadays....if only the voltage was the same........

But seriously, Canon is following their marketing, sales, and pricing strategy here all along - you can compare lenses, bodies, etc and all have been mostly consistently cheaper in markets such as USA or HK.

It used to be a 'price differentiated' market where people will buy the next cheaper item, but with the warranty controls, shipping, etc. It may make sense to some to continue buying in Singapore.

Warranties are still sometimes a joke in Singapore such that people would ignore it (just look at the constant warranty issues with cars, bicycles, HDB windows, etc). But Canon Singapore warranty is actually much better and seriously handled - they do stand behind their product and warranty in recent years.

I think it's the way the different market price their stuff. According to my friend who stayed in the US for half a year, the printers are cheap but the cartridges are expensive. Guess that explains the different pricing strategy...

yup. but this kind of pricing strategy is ultra dangerous. with global shipping, it is so easy to ship items across borders, especially printer catridges.

i wish they use the same pricing strategy here, then I use 3rd party catridges
