Cheers!

Thank you UY79 !!!!!!

I just took out my calculator and started hallucinating. Went through the sums below.

$10 K divide by $6 (Cost of roll of film + processing, I have film scanner)
= approx 1600 rolls

Inevitable to change to film scanner soon. Everytime i shoot about 5-10 rolls every week....

btw what is Super-spherical acute matte screen. can i still activate the panoramic view and turn it off. I dont want the grid lines too.

cheers

thank you UY97!!!!!

3 rolls of ISO 400 films at Cathay cost about $8.50, thus 1 roll = $2.80. Then Send the film for processing (not printing), it will cost about $3.00 .... so about $6 ......

He did mentioned he only processed, not printed it out ......

It's for better manual focus. I'm not sure if they still repair your 8000i?

Cheers!

Hi there,

Just out of curiosity... cos I never have this idea of fixed amount of money for this hobby

Q1: Why $10k? Expected / allocated budget for this hobby?

Q2: With a film scanner, still, u need to buy and send ur negatives for processing. Hence, the amount of $10k is still a sum of money that will not disappear from ur calculation...

pls. enlighten me with ur budget calculation...perhaps i can adapt ur method and be a more economic photo. hobbyst without switching to digital body...

cheers...

Didn't you know?

Actually, it's the older Minolta SLRs, 7000i and 8000i, which I think they are the only ones that has panoramic adapters to take panoramic shots.

Just crop your the top and/or bottom of your shots to make them panoramic.

Else the real panoramic cameras, notably, are Hasselblad XPan II, which produces shots that are twice as long as a 35mm frame, and Fuji GX617, which takes produces 6x17cm shots or nearly 3 6x6cm MF frames.

XPan II

So does the Dynax 7 itself have one or only the older cameras? Thanks! I'm going to NZ< could do with a panoramic adaptor.... if it can be installed mid-roll.

Just crop/cut your shots/prints to panoramic. Same effect as the adapters.

Cheers!

Oh. The panoramic adapter still uses only a single 35mm frame lah. To take what you describe here in a single frame you need real panoramic cameras like the ones I listed just now.

Cheers!

The budget helps me to stay focus on the money made from this hobby. I do Asian Aerospace and so on, hence helps me to refinance lens purchase and so on.

However digital cameras depreciate too quickly and I dont need them actually. I will actually be shooting 10 x 4 (per month) x 12 = 480 rolls per annum excluding commercial shoots. Therefore will reach 1600 only in 3 years.
The b**** problem is that as the customer demand the highest quality - even though they dont need the resolution, we ourselves tend to run after whatever is best out there.

Minolta is more than sufficient for my needs now. I am using the older Minolta 800si which has a panaromic function when I pressed a couple of buttons, it turns on to help me find the horizon especially when I am using 20mm where distortion is considerable. I am considering Minolta 3x AF Macro len. Wonder if anybody has used it before. Blurblock? Do you have one of these as well?

You have every reasons to switch digital with 1600 rolls -> 57,600 frames in next 3 yrs.

I agree. You don't have to buy into the DSLR craze of replacing the body everytime a new one comes around. It's like handphones. Some people change handphones every now and then. Some are still using old ones which are still functioning well.

At the rate you shoot, digital will be a more viable than film, given the advantage of digital workflow.

Cheers!

Talking about HP, I have just changed my from a old old one.. no color, dot matrix, no nice ringtone to a cheap but reasonably good one.. T630.

Like UY said, don't need the most advanced model lah and change everytime when new one released. Just follow 1-2 generation behind, very economical!!

Yeah, unfortunately we photographers are perfectionists. I already changed 2 handphones this year. haha. DSLR is good but i suppose new problems will arise. Have not seen any long exposure shots in daylight yet >10 secs or 30 secs. I know the N*** word is very sensitive here but they just announced one 3 days ago. Looks good.

To answer UY79, my post processing is very tedious. Even when it comes to digital workflow, it is just a couple of less steps. Frankly, I feel that I need to do is to understand the limits of the system I already have. Right now, I have just skimmed the surface.

Deslim27, UY79 if you can, I would like to share with you guys some readings from my lightmeter. Any advice would be appreciated.

cheers
