Default I am but I hates.....

I am a cyclist but I do hate cyclist. Esp those dont obey rules, cycling fast on pavement, ringing their bell like a MAD person etc...

Have a thought for other. If you cycle, you must understand a lot of things. Like vehicle drivers do have BLIND spot and therefore, we must cycle a distant from them. To those who like to cycle on pavement for safer issue, do mind that other are walking on a slow pace and so, you are the one who should detour whenever possible and not ringing that BELL! Not that you own a bicycle means you own the pavement, just like if you are driving on the road, will you overtake or you horn at other?

I was waiting for a bus yesterday, from my LEFT, I thought some one fallen! Cause some cyclist just dash at high speed and created a loud bang from the drain cover. I wondering, what IF bus comes, I stand up, without notice incoming from LEFT and got hit!? Should I beat up the cyclist for hitting me and let him/her go??? I ever got hit by a bicycle from my LEFT as she is cycling against the traffic and I was about to cross. Almost hit the impt area but luckily, I am tall enough.

I think, those irresponsible cyclist are playing with fire. Once a accident occurs, blame the innocent driver. I dont drives but I pity those drivers who get involve in an accident with a cyclist. I ever witness, a cyclist, full gear, beating RED light!!! Those gear can't save their lives if they dont OBEY the rules in the first place. Some cyclist even more brainless as they on their TAIL light when cycling on pavement. Who will be faster than them on pavement, ghost is it?

I think more barriers should be place ard bus stop to prevent cyclist from cycling pass it at high speed. New law that if an accident involve with a cyclist and if eye witness says that cyclist beating red light or cycling opposite direction, the driver shouldn't be charged. Stop the sale of bells, as it's no needed in the first place, as due to courteous, cyclist SHOULD give way, not FORCING their way. Maybe our lion is gone, no more courteous campaign.

Still a lot of things to add. Been a cyclist myself, I HARDLY cycle on pavement, beats traffic light (that's why I took so long to cycle previously), and i will obey rules etc... A ruthless cyclist is just like digging their own grave, no 1 can saves them....
(Just want to voice out my anger , sorry for my bad gammers and spelling)
    Only Sony device mostly, haha!

I also no signal but I do look back if I making a turn. Mostly I will slow down, check, before turning left or right. If at round about, I mostly looks behind first. Must try to sync with drivers la, blind spot kills!

i tink the problem starts wen our beloved country choose to allow cycling on the pavement. They made the pavement so called wider and both pedestrians and cyclist suppose to be harmonious on this wider pavement. Unfortunately, not the whole island is provided with this wider pavement and people have this idea once some areas are open to both the whole island should accommodate both.

Also i tink we lack any laws that require cyclist to have some form of public way of behaving properly when cycling be it on the road or on the pavement. I also believe the bus stop area shd be designed in such a way that cyclist cannot cycle thru them. There's just too many blind spots esp for those who just gotten off the bus and a cyclist might just whizz thru.

Even with signs saying no cycle on certain area, ppl still cycle on it. Either they are blind or dont know what the sign means. What a huge disappointment.

I guess you mean the sidewalk? When I was in SG and someone rang the bike bell I didn't move. I kept walking just as I has been before.
One time this one guy was heading the opposite direction and instead of going around me he kept ringing the bell and heading towards me. I had to actually stop his bike with my hands or he would have hit me. He kept ringing the bell and tried to push me. I didn't move. Glared at him for about a minute until he went around on the dirt.
Stand your ground. If they hit you see them in court.

What he was referring to was the new initiative by the government to integrate cyclists and pedestrians in new towns such as Bukit Gombak, Tampiness etc. etc.

Cyclists here have such unfortunate life. Cycle on the road, get knocked down by cars. Cycle on the pavement, get cursed and kicked from the side by pedestrians.

It's time to follow the ET method of cycling.

but even then... i thought got spilt the pavement into clearly divided lines?

at least... the park i'm jogging at lakeside has 2 lanes... one for joggers, one for runners... same for the routes alongside the canal if i'm not mistaken

Can't generalize cyclists as just one group. There will always be black sheep. Even pedestrian will have black sheep. It boils down to the individual.

Advocating that there is a 'right to injure/kill' when one has right of way is not the right message to send across.
    Simple example :
I drive on the road, and see an old lady jaywalk across the road and I will hit her if I don't maneuver away or jam the brakes. I can mow here down as I am not in the wrong.
    Well that is very wrong.

MHO, the best way is still education on all parties and a light slap of the hand with some patrolling and enforcement.

Here, cyclists are not allowed to ride on footpaths, but there are shared paths which are meant to be shared.
Also, ringing of the bell, is not telling the pedestrians to move out of the way, but to let them know that the cyclist is approaching.
There are even signs which tell you to ring the bell.

Here's what the department of transport says:

    But many don't understand.
It is the camera, not the photographer.

I've had people on bikes slow down behind me and just ring that bell instead of going around. I still kept walking normally.
And why are singaporeans afraid of stern looks so much? It's just a look and not that stern actually lol.

Slowing down and ring to alert pedestrians is the right approach. Ringing incessantly and cycle fast pace only evoke irritation. There's another way around this though...glide slowly with "loud" hubs to alert pedestrian. Cycling on shared pavement should be fine, everyone who uses this should be mindful to take care of themselves and others.
Educating cyclists is the way to go. Most major European cities are encouraging cycling as a means of transport. Think this is one good way to keep good health and protect the environment. To condemn cyclists because of some black sheep is illogical. Black sheeps are everywhere, pedestrians, cyclists or motorists.

I believe if we do nothing about these black sheep, they will multiply in no time
