Default Color Laser for printing catalogs

I'm new to Color Laser.

So which brand / model is good for printing A4 size Color catalog? I have a budget of about 1.5k max for the printer. My product consist of metal, so i need it to replicate chrome metal color.

Another thing is, what type of paper is good for such usage? i see some semi glossy or film coat type of paper. Are they any good, will the color last on those?

Thanks

I've used the Epson Aculaser C1900 for printing colour A4 brochures in my office. Print quality is good. Not sure of the cost for one now. But it was purchased last year for 2K plus...

Hi,

You might want to go around to test out the printers. Unlike inkjet printers, the output quality and colour could vary A LOT from brand to brand, and even model to model. And ask around various forums for the running costs... a lot of brands have "affordable" pricing but the running costs per page (not the toner cartridge price) could be quite pricey. Esp. when you have specific needs like chrome metal reproduction, you'd better bring down a sample of your artwork to check out the performance of the printer.

P.S: I suspect laser printers won't be very good in producing chrome effects, as they're usually quite flat in contrast.

If you're printing in large volumes, consider the Fuji Xerox solid-ink lasers. Great results reported, but you must print in high volumes to justify the ink use, cuz the printer melts the solid ink which must be used relatively soon or the ink will disintegrate.

after 4 weeks i still haven get 1... haiz...

anyway, just went SLS to look around...

the KM 5430DL & the KM2350EN is about 200 bucks diff, but the 5430DL is i think a single pass making it 20ppm, i am wondering if the quality is same as the KM 2350en, they do not have a display set so dunno about the built, but the 'sample' seem nice enough. Canon LBP2410 is alot cheaper, but it does not have the ethernet support... wonder if the HP 2500series is good anot as well, since now selling for 999 on papers.

any idea which 2 get?

I think one point to note would be not to only look at the cost of the printer, but also on the cost of ink supplies as well.

seen some review says that if you change 1 set of the samsung toners, can buy another set of samsung CLP... cos the set is cheap hence they sell the toner to cover back... bad strategy...

with a budget of 1.5 k and you want to replicate metal, its kinda impossible even on higher end laser colour printers.

i suggest you just send your brochures out for offset printing, it might be cheaper, and the printer can use the correct pantone colours to match the metallic colours.

the xerox docu colour 1255 with the splash colour server is as close you can get, but that setup is 60k !!!

I'm using a Xerox 125X series... nowhere does the colours come anywhere near metal (and believe me, we tried!)

Any metallic surface which comes from the computer screen is automatically like a grayscale image already so the printers role in this situation is to get the colours as close as possible to the onscreen image. Adn the xerox 125x + splash colour server does a very very decent job, within a small budget

if you are into dye sub you can go to labs and ask them to print on kodak metallic endura paper, thats pretty reflective and might be the effect you are looking for

but as i mentioned before, send it out of offset and ask for gold or silver foil , they will know how to advise you.
