Default Error 99 and CMOS Cleaning

Hello all,

Two questions:

1. Does anyone had any problem with Error 99 and what it means?
2. Where can I send my Canon 300D for CMOS cleaning and how long does it take?

Thanks in advance,

Saiful Bahar

$20 to clean CMOS at Canon Singapore, Keppel Bay Tower (WTC).
I waited 30 minutes when I was there last week.

Hi Kiama,

Thanks a lot. I was using sigma lens but also can't recall if it happens with my canon lens too... I'll test them again. Thanks.

Err99 is a catch-all for unidentified errors. It can range from battery issues to mount contact issues to shutter/sensor problems.

It's be best if you can consistently replicate the err99. Then when you send the item in, the technicians would be able to isolate and (hopefully) solve the problem.

If it occurs with any lens, any battery, under random external conditions, and more frequently when you shoot in bursts, it could be an imminent shutter failure.

ST,

Got that, thanks for the added information. Error 99 usually occur when I'm using flash and I'll add that to one of the list of isolation error. Thanks

Hmm ... is this problem imminent in all 300Ds? I got my 300D for about 4 months. I've been getting that now and then as well. Happened on random occasions but not often. Pretty worried.

Just got back from Canon. Did the CMOS cleaning... SGD 21 inclusive GST. For the Error 99, the usual troubleshoot will take about one week. Can't do it now, maybe next time.

For your interest, I had asked if the 300D Silver body can be re bodied to the black ones. The answer is YES! but will cost about 300 dollars as it will need to be specially ordered from Japan.
