MAXIM, the #1 men's lifestyle magazine in the world, launches its Singapore edition on newsstands all over the island today.

13 September, 2004 (Monday) --- The local edition is licensed exclusively to SPH Magazines Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Singapore Press Holdings Group. SPH Magazines also publishes Her World, Her World Body, Her World Brides, Shape, Home and Decor, Young Parents and Inspirational Homes.

A spectacular launch party will be held at Rouge on September 16 to officially launch the Maxim Singapore. Guests to the exclusive event will be treated to a life-size interactive “Maxim experience” recreated in various sections of the club. Glitzy Maxim girls will also be all dolled up for snapshot souvenirs of the big bash.

"This is going to be a earth-shattering launch for us," says SPH Magazines’
CEO David Tay. "Singapore is a great and expanding magazine market, where the men's magazine segment has been relatively neglected. With the changing
habits, lifestyle and 'internationalisation' of the average male
Singaporean, it's an opportune time for such a magazine here, especially since the name 'Maxim' is already on everybody's lips."

“Maxim’s entry into Singapore’s publishing industry at this time is a positive signal for the men’s magazine business, traditionally having struggled in comparison with female titles here,” notes SPH Magazines’
General Manager James Sundram. “Its confidence in rising above the existing competition comes from an ingenious editorial concept embracing in-depth men’s interest features, laugh-out-loud humour and of course, sexy girls.
With a content mix that is fresh, funny, cool (fashion) and stunning (photography), its winning formula is both flashy and stimulating.”

As the first men’s magazine title brought in by SPH, the group’s confidence in the title also stems from its belief that Singaporean men are still searching for that monthly “macho bible” that speaks to them on both an intellectual and entertaining level. Editor Dylan Tan (who hails from a long standing men’s magazine in Singapore) feels that Maxim Singapore will fill the gap between magazines that portray local men like testosterone bursting boys and those which typically try too hard to appeal to the cerebral part of the male.

“Put simply, this magazine will be a long-awaited celebration of and dedication to the greatest things in a guy’s life,” says Dylan. “Our heroes are men who’ve experienced the highs and lows of life, who’ve staggered through the storm and survived to tell it like it is. We still love beautiful women, having a great time, looking good and having a laugh at the end of the day. So we give you a men’s magazine with lions instead of just lager. Expect an orgy of war, women, humour, animals, fashion and genius every month.”

"Maxim is publishing dynamite," says the magazine's international
publishing director Kerin O'Connor. "In just 10 years, the magazine has scorched a trail around the world with knock-out editorial, creating an enviable rise in partnership with the top licensees in the business."

The monthly Singapore edition will have a circulation of at least 45,000 and a readership of 120,000 when it launches.

MAXIM is the world’s biggest men’s general interest magazine selling 4 million copies, with 26 editions in 36 countries, and growing bigger all the time.
