Default z3 wouldn't zoom

Weird thing happened this morning. Hadn't fired up my camera in a day or two, put it into record mode and turned it on, but found that I couldn't zoom at all. It appeared that the inner lens elements had not extended from the closed position in the camera. The effect was I was at full telephoto, and even though the zoom indicator showed I was going from full wide to telephoto, the lens elements were not moving.

I power cycled it a few times, put it into playback mode, no change.

Finally popped the batteries and brought it back up and it's fine now.

Strange.

The last thing I had done with the camera was transfer files off using the usb cable.

Anyone else see this?

Record mode? as in Video recording? I heard that some cameras won't zoom when video recording is on.
