May I take this opportunity to sum up the thread before it goes into more derailing by listing what I have
gathered so far from active participants:

    1. Landscape
    2. Photoshop skills
    3. Macro
    4. Events
    5. IR
    6. Food
    7. Nude
    8. Low light
    9. Strobing
    10. "Speed"
    11. Architecture
    12. Studio portraits
    13. Light painting
    14. Environmental portraiture
    15. Shadowless flash

    Questions we should consider seriously:

    1. Do you measure up with your intention, inventiveness and craftsmanship?
    2. Have you been able to contribute to the historical and pedagogical areas of the photographic medium?

Humbly here is a clue that could be shared:
Master light > master the source > master the self > then you begin to a master of your life > master of every situation....

More to come in abundant...only through knowing and taking actions on the purpose of doing photography!

Wow thanks for the summary. Don't take it too serious though. Derailing is extremely common in kopitiam

I think clubsnappers tends to take the word "master" lightly. "What do want to master next?" assumes that you have already mastered something. Except for a few that I am aware of, I doubt that many people here, including myself, has really mastered anything. I think we just want to try new things once we are bored with the stuff we have done before.

Have my hands in all genres, but not good at any of them.
Aim for passing grade above 50/100 can already.

i agree that i may have used the term very loosely.

any of the shooters in CS that you would consider to be a "master" or "mistress" in a particular field?

i think some of the macro shooters would qualify??

what is an objective standard to score yourself against?

i wun say i mastered but rather had some hands on for those in bold.

    1. Landscape - I started off photography in this area... if really want to say master (everyone got it's own level of mastering a skin), this genre had to be it.
    2. Photoshop skills - Still very basic user in this area, last time I am limited to resizing of photos, now i know how to clone, skin softening, curves adjustment, add noise, convert b/w and do some tonality.
    3. Macro - I am using FF now... quite disadvantaged in a way i need longer lens.
    4. Events

    5. IR
    6. Food - Think I CMI in this genre
    7. Nude
    8. Low light
    9. Strobing

    10. "Speed" - do u mean panning?
    11. Architecture
    12. Studio portraits

    13. Light painting
    14. Environmental portraiture - not quite sure what this means... do u mean encompassing portraits with the environment settings in the background?
    15. Shadowless flash

so far think i will give light painting a try if got time.

the only genre above that does not attracts me is IR, haven seen any photos to move me to try it myself.
