    Depending on how you want to shoot your portrait. Both are good, sharp lens. 50mm might be a bit tight when using a crop body, but I've known many people who actually do shoot great portrait shots using this lens. 35mm lens is more like the normal lens. Which means it more or less imitate the size of the objects as relative to your eyes in cropped body.

    50mm f1.8 is a good, inexpensive lens. Sure it can take pretty decent portrait shots. $300 can get u the lens with filter. Just nice.
