Thread: Is Digi-cabi a good brand for camera dry cabinet?

  1. #1

Default Is Digi-cabi a good brand for camera dry cabinet?

I'm looking for a bigger dry cabinet for my camera equipment.

Happened to take note of this brand "Digi-cabi". Is it good? I recall vaguely reading somewhere it will cause water condensation or something like that? Sorry can't remember the details as someone from CS I think posted it a long time back.

I noticed that Digi-cabi offers one of the cheapest prices generally among a few other brands so not sure how reliable it is?

Thank you for any comments or views.

digi cabi, Akarui, Aipo are the common brands. So, doubt you can go wrong with any of them.

oh yah... any one got the Digital version? Any advantage? Cost more of course.... I was told it's more convenient when setting the humidity.

So far i've been using the analog type.

Almost the same in function. Maybe humidity control is better. I.e +/- 1% vs 0.1% that kinda thing. Read something about it in the sub forum before.. Maybe u can try to search for it or something. Hehe

    Using digicabi myself. No complaints.

you already answered your own question. Convenience.
If you feel that you need a lot of precision with the humidity value, by all means get the digital one.
Personally I find the analog one sufficient. Took me a couple of days to get the humidity to where I wanted, then it has been ok ever since

Analogue is good enough. There is no performance difference if either "analogue" or "digital" are open loop models.

All consumer dry cabinets will cause condensation inside. That's the way they work: A so-called Peltier element will get cold on one side and warm on the other when electrical power in switched on. The cold site faces inside the cabinet, causing humidity in the air to condense and drop down where it is led to outside. This way the humidity of the air inside the cabinet is reduced - which is the desired effect.
What makes the difference between different models and brands is the way the system is controlled (setting target humidity) and how the humidity is displayed. There is an existing thread with more technical details:

Just also sharing my experience with the Digicabs. i have two at home both 50l. Recently 1 of the unit has a problem and i brought it down to Tagore Lane for repairs. Very experienced and friendly service. He changed the controller unit for me. Didn't even ask to see my warranty card, just say looking at my unit, it cannot be more than 2 yrs old.

I can't comment on the other brands but good support may be an important consideration for you as well. Bad location tho.

I second this, they are very straight when the dehumidifier unit breaks down during the warranty period, just go to their place and change for new one on the spot, no questions asked.
