Dear All,
Still looking for a good filter for my new A1. Check around the internet and found this thin Hoya HMC Super Pro 49mm filter works the best on an A1. Can anyone provide some info about where to buy this filter at a reasonable price? How much it'll likely cost? Thanks a lot for your info. Cheers! |

Hoya can be bought from just about anywhere. Much easier to get hold of than B+W or Heliopan.
I believe Cathay Photo has the best prices for most items. Cheers! |

I bought the normal thickness HMC UV at Alan for my ex-A1. Price between 15-17. Not the super pro one. No problem with vignetting.

This afternoon I took my A1 and my laptop to Funan and Peninsula, went to CP, TCW, Minolta Service Center and some other small shops. Tested the following filters: B+W MRC UV filter (Normal, not slim, no stock), Hoya HMC normal, Minolta L37 UV and Hoya Super HMC Pro 1.
I took pics from 28 all the way to 50 focal length, and a couple of tele ones for each filter, of a plain white A4 paper. View all the pics on my laptop PC. Here are the results: 1. B+W MRC UV normal type (tested in CP), vignetting from 30-37mm, very bad 2. Hoya HMC normal type (tested in TCW), vignetting from 30-37mm, slightly better than B+W, but still quilte obvious. 3. Minolta L37 UV (no new one, but a used one at TCW), no vignetting all zoom range. But it's a used one, has a tiny scratch. Could have taken it for S$5 but went on to more shops. 4. Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 Slim (tested in JOIN #3-16, Funan), no vignetting all zoom range. Bargained price down to S$36 and bought it. JOIN has another Pro1 Slim in stock. If you want one, be sure to get it quick. I've called most of the other known photo shops (MS Color, AP, TK Photo and etc), no others carry this slim pro one in stock. Finally my A1 is fully protected (hope so )BTW, don't know why this filter priced so high in the US, over US$50 there ! CP can do special orders for 40-50 each. They don't have any instock. Just wanna share this with you guys. Cheers! Last edited by fengwei; 8th September 2004 at 08:53 PM. |

They are certainly a group (not bunch) of friendly staffs and boss. Even when I walk by the shop without entering, they will wave to me from inside, despite they are handling customers. Hope the customers not feel irriated by this act.Last edited by forbytes; 8th September 2004 at 11:38 PM. |
