by the way friend, can enlighten me on your this sentence... "But the 2 lens setup will be quite abit more troublesome when you need the longer focal length."? thanks.
Troublesome as in swapping lenses when u r out with family. Tend to miss out shots or frustrate ur family waiting for u while swapping.

I bought my cam without the kit lens (18-105), n instead got the 18-55 + 55-200. ended up I bought a used 18-105 for use when out with family cos I missed ALOT of shots during our holidays.

I'll recommend against buying from IT show...

2 lens means you will have to change lens....When you are on 1 you will lose either the wide end or the long end. Meaning

On 18-55, you will lose the long end, 55-250 you will lose the wide end.. Sounds logical right?
55mm imo is too long to be a normal lens on a crop body. But still, it depends on how comfortable you are with either of the focal range. For my case, I'm the in-between one...between 18-80, so that is quite some frequent change of lens.

    Changing of lens
Depending on situation, you may or may not have the time (e.g. Following Tour Group or a Free & Easy holiday) or is unable to do so (e.g. In windy/dusty/sandy condition)

    Hope this explains abit...

If I have the budget or the heart to, I will dump it on a 18-200 in a heartbeat...the ultimate compromise

otoh, the 2 lens setup also forced me to choose my subject carefully...

Haha. Don't have the budget lor. N i still treasure my other 2 lenses as the iQ are better than the 18-200 alone. So now my setup is 18-105 + 50mm when out with family or 18-55, 55-200 + 50mm when out shooting alone.

If I shoot alone, I don't mind having to change lens...cos almost like having all the time in the world. But for tour packages, dream lens - 18-200...

Don't have CFO. But based on justifications, since I seldom travel....so it doesn't have too much value other than convenience...Find it hard to part 1k for convenience. If go overseas, take it as a training to change lens in "harsh" conditions

550D have the Kit 2 option, 18-135. Not a bad choice either

No worries. 18-55 means the wide end is 18mm while the 55 means the tele end... so to put it in layman terms. with 18mm you can get more stuffs in the picture, 55mm is like zoomed in on a subject. So it's the same for 55-250, 55 at the widest and 250 at the longest.

hmm... but how come u said will lose wide end since 55-250mm more wider which in term can capture more wider view? (:

I should have known, "a picture speaks a thousand words"

    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...ns-Review.aspx

    Scroll down alittle and you will see the starfish picture, put ur cursor over each of those focal length " 18mm | 24mm | 50mm | 80mm | 135mm | 170mm | 200mm "

18-55 will be similar to 18mm - 50mm and the 55-250 will be similar to from 50mm to 200mm. So in terms of wideness, 50mm is not as wide as 18mm

When I meant that you will lose the wide end, cos it's not wide enough ;P

hahax. oic. thanks for sharing of information. (: think 18-135 (kit II) lens more better. can have wide view and also distant view. (:

    Ya I've got 4 lenses.

As for the mm diffs, think of it this way. Picture urself standing at the door looking into a room. With a 18mm (wide angle lens), u can capture whatever u can see in the room.

Now standing on the same spot, u turn ur lens n zoom in to 55mm. Now what do you see on your cam? Only the windows. That's the narrow field of view (FOV) on a zoom lens. The higher the number, the closer u r zooming onto the subject.

    Hope this is clear?

No prob, 18-135 should suffice as a walkabout lens till you learn about your favorite focal length and limitations of current lens before you upgrade to the next

*I still dislike the 55mm end of the 18-55, too short for me....sigh*
