Are you comfortable shooting at just one fixed focal length? The answer will pretty much determine your direction.

    Totally different cameras.
Know what you are getting into before you purchase a fixed lens camera like the X100. It may look cool (and IS cool), but it will wear off fast if if does not match your expectations of it.
There are also small APS-C sensor mirror-less cameras like NX11, NEX, u4/3s to consider if you want a cool looking, highly functional, portable camera with interchangeable lenses.

    600D, nice camera too.

It all depends on your needs.

ya.. i know those 2 are totally different cameras. haha
but after months of looking at lots of different cameras, i've finally come down to this 2 cameras. in a dilemma on which to get.
if it matters, i don't really need all those fancy functions, i just need a camera that takes nice pictures. haha

Nice pictures depends more on the one behind the camera...

After spending months looking at different cameras, what criteria did you apply in order to shortlist these 2 candidates?
I hope it's more definitive than "a camera that can take good quality pictures", because in that case your shortlist should contain dozens upon dozens of different cameras.

For what? Uploading to facebook? Viewing on low-resolution on a PC? Printing at 4R? You won't be able to tell the difference between your choices and a decent compact cam.

Frankly speaking, if I was TS, I would get a DSLR - be it a Canon, a Nikon, a Sony or a Pentax as my primary body. And a smaller mirrorless camera like the Olympus micro 4/3 for my second body and to carry overseas or doing some candid street shots. Expanding on this... I would only get the X100 for a second body.

A DSLR is always more versatile when compared to the Fujifilm X100, the amount of lens that can be used on the DSLR, the accessories, etc would make a DSLR more desirable.
