Sorry, it is the focusing ring that tend to give out a grinding noise. Not a big issue because it doesn't affect focusing- just that it's a bit irritating.

the light leak is not a defect but more of a sealant issue caused by bumps, drops or sudden change of temps...better check this as they could have thrown this new box during shipment etc.

Or if you don't have the time to come back and forth, just use a black tape to cover the distance window.

This lens is superb, its premium priced so try to get the premium local service as well.

Good luck on your purchase! cheers!
bro, how to check the light leak? I'm planning to get this lens.

    heavy huh? ehehe

This lens is just so useful, when I go on trips its always with me together with my 35f2 just in case I'll be going to some sketchy neighborhood.

    14-24 - 5% usage
    24-70 - 85% usage
    70-200 - 10% usage

    enjoy!

Many people stared at me when using this lens... maybe they find it too big...

don't see why they would, its a pretty common lens.

that said, my copy does make the noise when turning the focus ring. doesn't bother me at all.

    also, see signature.

A bunch of us use gaffer tape on our equipment to camouflage it and make it inconspicuous... think you're doing the exact opposite

expensive gear is expensive, keeping a low profile is usually better

is it the camera angle or is the 24-70 really that big compared to a d7000??

This lens is not very very big... it will look like a dwarf if you bring it to F1. On the other hand, it looks rather "big" when compared with other compacts in the Zoo...

BTW, partially is the angle, partially is the hood which makes it looks "big"...
