Sigma has announced that the SD1, its latest digital SLR, will ship in early June at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$9700 in the U.S. The centrepiece of the costly new camera is its 14.75 million image pixel, 1.5X-size Foveon sensor, which incorporates separate red, green and blue sensitive layers within each pixel well for what the company says will be better quality photos than those produced by the bayer-array sensors used in Canon, Nikon and almost all other digital SLRs today.
