I am lookiing at these 2 lenses. Hope to have comments from those that used either before. Is it good walking lense? Any likes and dislikes?

    > AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Aspherical (IF) Ultra Zoom ($600)

I do not have the 2 lenses mentioned above. However, I would recommend you to try the 24-135 SP lens. The optics I believe would be very good compared to the 2 lenses above. The only draw back compared to a Canon USM lens is the focussing speed. However, it's definitely value for money....

    My 2 cents worth.

I have the 28-200, and it is good for film camera users. However, with the D100 (i cannot speak for the other d cams), it tends to back-focus, especially on the short range of 28 to about 100mm. Need to pull in to 200 to do the focusing and then pull to whatever focal length you desire.

Any idea on the price for 24-135 SP lens then? Thanks!

I think it's about $600 brand new. About $450~550 second hand...
