Barrel distortion is not well controlled. It is quite bad actually when compared to other similar lenses like Nikon 14/2.8 and even the Nikon 14-24. The distortion is mustache shaped and is not easy to correct for inexperienced PPers.

The samyang got all the praises for it's sharpness, CA control and most of all, its low price. It does not perform better than similar offerings from other brands, but performance is almost there while priced very very low.

It does not make sense on APSC sensor based bodies simply because that focal length is offered by so many other lenses for crop bodies. 11-16, 10-20, 12-24, 10-22 from multiple brands.

Only on a full frame camera does 14mm becomes hard to achieve. And only a handful of lenses can offer this focal length and all of them are much more expensive.

And buyers of samyang please do check your lenses properly before buying. Some copies are plagued with QC issues from what I have heard. Problems reported ranges from de-centered elements to tool marks and scratches on elements.

That said, the lens is a cheap and sweet lens if you are shooting landscape on a fullframe and if you get a good copy.

But for people who care about resale, this is one lens that is hard to sell used when you want to get rid of it.

If you want to isolate a subject in frame to be focus while blurring everything else out, the bigger the f-stop being available, the easier u can achieve your shot.
how do i focus the object i want if i have a high F ?? i thought its smaller F and the object behind wuld b blured ?thanks

Higher f number means greater DOF. Lower f number means lesser DOF.
Focus and compose the picture as u normally would.

    don't bother about the quote.

    1) Smaller F-stop numbers (wide apertures) e.g. f1.2, f1.4, f2 will blur out the background giving you subject isolation due to shallower depth of field. larger F-stop numbers (smaller apertures) e.g. f8, f11, f16 will give you more depth of field, hence it's widely used for landscapes.

    2) DOF is also affected by Focal Length. the greater your focal length, the shallower DOF you'll have e.g. f2.8 at 200mm will give you shallower DOF as compared to f2.8 at 24mm.

i am so sorry but what is the difference between a shallow DOF and a greater DOF ?? pardon me if this is a noob question..
