Default question: buying eqpt overseas

Hi guys,

What are your experiences buying camera equipment overseas? Specifically, I am looking to acquire equipment at cheaper prices.

Anybody has a D1/x/h to sell?

Cheers!

But if you go states, don't buy japanese accessories. I've heard minolta's HS3600 going at almost US$300 in the states while a shop in lucky plaza quoted me S$250.....

If you buy overseas, won't the warranty be a problem?

Yes, warrenty can be a problem esp. if you buy in japan. DC's English manual can usually be downloaded. The menu in the LCD are usually multi-language, so that's not a problem too.

For price, just check out www.yodobashi.com

The place you mentioned in Japan is called "Ikehabara". That's the lelong house or street for all frontier electronic gadgets. But let me warn you, if u buy from there, some things to take note.....

The place is where many electronic giant do their prototype test market. They design and build a new product and launch it there. If the review shown that the product is not doing well, they'll just not let it come into the open cionsumer market.

I previously bought a prototype Casio digital cam watch from there way before it launches the mass market editition in the current market. Guess what, qwhen I send it to Casio agent in Singapore for servicing, they said that they never have such a watch in their product database. So, they don't know how to service it.

So,...bear in mind the risk....

btw, is it really so cheap that it worth the trouble, warranty and the time u have to wait for it to be shipped...and the risk of getting it lost or damages on arrival?
