I've had horse sashimi before at Kagoshima in a little izakaya (looks weird, intense marbling), along with a sideplate of sliced whitish fats from the roots of the horse's mane
Didn't think much of it; then again there was also mutton and chicken sashimi on the table. Probably overkill on the palate
When I was a wee lad, my mom worked in a Turf Club in Msia, where the in-house caterer/canteen served horse meat too.
Late last year, at the dinner table somewhere in Western Australia, one of the guest remarked with an abhorrent look on her face that there's a movement to legalize the consumption of horse meat. She made it clear that she thought it barbaric; for companionship and riding upon. I then made the wisecrack about exotic meat trade in SE Asia - snakes, lizards, anteater/pangolin, flying fox, sun bear ... and it all went downhill from there.
