Thread: Colour cartridge difference

  1. #1

    Default Colour cartridge difference

What's the difference between a Canon 4-colour & a 5-colour printer? Does it mean better print quality or some other benefit?

The fifth colour is a pigment black. It claims to give deeper blacks and shadow areas when compared to a four colour printer. My Canon i850 has four colours, black and CMY, but the black does not seem to be used when printing photos. This can be seen as the colour inks go down quite fast but the black ink level remains high.

BCI 3EBK(pigment ink) for text printing,
    not for photo.

If so, then the additional black ink in the i865, BCI-6Bk, should be used for photo priniting then.
