Photography books really help one hone their techniques and skills! What's one book you would recommend to develop photography skills? Post it up and let's hear about it!

Hi I have only read Bryan Peterson's books.

For me I learned a lot while reading and doing his exercises.
I think there are 5 books all in all.

i usually dun read haha. but i have the following books (all Scott Kelby):

    Digital Photography Vol1-3
    CS4
    Lightroom 3

For photography skills, personally instead of reading, I prefer to do self exploration (trial and error). I just need to know the relationship of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Its good to start off.

For post processing wise, I had to refer to books as I don't know what some features does in the software that will enhance my photos.

Here are some of our recommendations.

For nature photography, Jenni Bidner has written a great book,The Best of Nature Photography. Those interested in Portrait photography might like to check out Jeff Smith's Success in Portrait Photography.

Thanks for your recommendation! Is it helpful for a beginner to attend photography classes as well to improve skills?

Any suggestions on how a beginner photographer can start practising? For instance, what should he/she start shooting? close-ups shots? landscape shots? night scenery shots?

It's always better to shot subject that interest him/her more and do take some time to analyze the subject from different-different aspects (e.g the lighting, angle, composition, color, etc2). Seriously don't do it in hurry....after getting the photo which you think is the best, don't forget to post it in CS to get comments and critics .

I heard from my friend who join photography class of 30 people, their lecturer gave assignment to take 1 egg photo and give them 1 week time.
It sounds so simple, but the catch is that each of them should not have same photo / concept.... from that experience he said that's the first time he really have to think hard just to take an egg shot, to make sure no one in the class take the same photo like him

    Hi there!
I was fortunate to attend Guide to Travel Photography by Richard I'Anson. He's the author to Lonely Planet's Guide to Travel Photography. He threw in the book as part of package too. Great guide book for me.
