Hi, i just want to find out which **-300/400/500 lens would you most likely choose in terms of quality & price coz there is really a wide range to choose from. Other lens are fine with me as long as it does not exceed $ 1300 even for 2nd hand.
1)Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM 2)Sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 Macro 3)Sigma 100-300mm F4 EX IF HSM 4)Sigma 50-500mmF4-6.3 EX APO RF HSM 5)Sigma 135-400mm F4.5-5.6 APO Aspherical 6)Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Macro Super II Last edited by polo_pro10; 21st August 2004 at 09:13 PM. |

its quiet obvious from your choices right?
1)Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM 2)Sigma 28-300mm F3.5-6.3 Macro 3)Sigma 100-300mm F4 EX IF HSM 4)Sigma 50-500mmF4-6.3 EX APO RF HSM 5)Sigma 135-400mm F4.5-5.6 APO Aspherical 6)Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Macro Super II of course the 100-300 is the choice here, i dont think any of theses other lenses can beat the constant F4 rating. although, not somthing i would use, but i know its just within your budget, if you want longer than the next choice would be your 50-500. Decent too |

hi kai,
May i suggest that u get the 70-200 f/4 L? It's about $900+ for a second hand. Abt $1200+ for first hand. If i am not wrong, ya thinking of upgrading to a DSLR right? The 1.6 crop factor will make the lens a maximum of 320mm. I got pretty good pictures that day in the zoo with the 70-200 f/2.8 IS L, courtesy of Terrence, of course. The quality of the f/4 version should be pretty similar too. Just IMHO. cheers! Last edited by jlchong; 15th September 2004 at 12:43 AM. |

Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO Macro Super II
Cheap, and it gets the job done. I was looking at the Canon on your list, but figured that the Sigma is slightly more useful. It goes wider, and it is faster as well. As jlchong mentioned, the Canon 70-200mm f/4L is excellent as well, and probably just within your budget, if bought new. |
