i'm sorry. i'm the obnoxious replyer in the past threads.

I got another question. Arnt you the one with the new 1Ds?

The question about what you want to upgrade to can only be answered by you. The only person who knows what you really need or need it for.

Both cameras have different attributes, and strenghts and weaknesses. All i can say test it, get a feel for it and look at your budget.

For me a cheaper camera has always given me more room to buy lenses.

If its an investment, the "1s" (top line bodies) will always have a better resale value than any others, just like the "Ls" and the freekily resaleable 50mm1.8.

Good luck on this one! =)

P.S:
If you dont need to shoot fighting polarbears in antarctic / hummingbirds in the savanah, meaning if you dont need the speed and the build (Environmentally sealed magnesium body) . I dont think you would need a 1D. but thats just my view.

your line of upgrade is not now but in months time when they anounce the 1ds mark II, 16mp 5fps.

take this advise with salt and pepper.

if you don't know which to upgrade to, then you don't need the upgrade.

According to the above thread, the original poster already has a 1Ds.

Anyway, from the money made on the sale of the brand new nikon equipment which was a birthday present (Western Union payment only), sure theres plenty of money to buy both 1D Mk 2 AND 20D:

I don't think 20D is an upgrade to a 1Ds.

Buy the new 580EX (and the new CP-E3) while deciding between the 20D and Mk2... Both bodies will benefit from the new WB control on the new 580EX!

Depends on what do you shoot. What do you shoot then?

Incidentally, there are no polar bears in the antarctic..they are only found in the arctic.

Those planing to shoot polar bears please take note to avoid disappointment.

Since with a 1Ds, neither is a good choice as your next camera. You will have to decide what you need from the camera that your current cannot give. My recommendation is to hold till they come up with a successor to your 1Ds.

if ur assignment needs a camera fast... then get first.... sometimes the "waiting" game will just kill u..... keep waiting and newer products will come out... then no need to work meh.... if need go buy one or whatever.... if u want.... then reconsder...wait after photokina first....

For someone who had to ask, you most probably don't need to upgrade at all.

thanks for the clarification, from your earlier posts, you gave the impression that you had lots of camera equipment - eg: Canon 1Ds, and a whole Nikon system. It seemed strange that someone with so much equipment needed advice as to whether a 20D is better than a Mk 2.
