ALONSO WON'T RULE OUT REDS RETURN

    Posted 06/06/11 14:49

Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso has refused to rule out a return to Liverpool in the future.

Alonso left Liverpool for Real in the summer of 2009 after a difficult last 12 months at the club with then Reds boss Rafa Benitez willing to sell him as he pursued Gareth Barry.

The 29-year-old is happy with life at Madrid, but he is open to the possibility of one day returning to Merseyside.

When asked if would ever consider returning to Liverpool, Alonso told Liverpool tv : "Why not? I think that in football so many things change, and why not? I have my red passion and if circumstances arrived then why not?

"At the moment I don't know what is going to happen, but it could be a possibility. Never say never."

Alonso, who spent five years at Liverpool, admitted it was a major wrench to leave Anfield and he revealed he still misses the club.

"It was difficult because Liverpool has been and always will be very special," added Alonso. "It is in my heart because I have lived very intense things there.

"I miss lots of things. I miss the lads, I miss the atmosphere at Melwood - it was a great place to work, and the scenario of Anfield is unbeatable.

    REDS AGREE JORDAN HENDERSON FEE

    here is the curry sauce!!!

Liverpool have reportedly agreed terms on a £20million deal with Sunderland for Jordan Henderson which sees David Ngog move to the Stadium of Light.

The Reds have been locked in talks with the Black Cats for several days after making their initial approach last week.

The two clubs have been haggling over the valuation of the 20-year-old, who will undergo a medical with the Merseyside giants on Wednesday.

It is understood that the deal that has been agreed is worth £20million and it will include Ngog moving in the opposite direction, subject to him agreeing terms on Wearside.

The French striker will hold talks with the North-East club, while Henderson brokers his move to Anfield.

Henderson is due to link up with England Under-21 squad ahead of the European Championships which begins this weekend, and both clubs are eager for the move to be completed before then.

Liverpool, who signed strikers Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in a massive January spending spree, have wasted little time in trying to implement their summer rebuilding mission.

The Black Cats had insisted throughout reports of the Merseysiders' interest in their highest-profile academy graduate that he was simply not for sale.

However, the reality which has long been acknowledged by manager Steve Bruce is that every player has his price and for Henderson, that had been set at around the £20million mark.

Bruce had no desire to sell a player who emerged from the ranks last season to hold down a regular place in his hometown club's first-choice XI.

However, as was the case when Aston Villa came calling in January with a deal potentially rising to £24million for Darren Bent, Sunderland were made an offer which represents a significant return on their investment.

If the figures add up favourably, what is not in dispute is that Henderson's departure will leave another major hole in Bruce's squad.

His form suffered in the immediate aftermath of his senior England debut against France in November last year, but the 20-year-old has been a key man for the Black Cats in the last two seasons and will take some replacing.

The manager is already engaged in an extensive recruitment drive with Bent yet to be replaced, while the returns of loan signings Danny Welbeck, Nedum Onuoha, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari to their clubs has left him with a series of sizeable gaps to plug.

Bruce is targeting as many as three strikers and in the circumstances, the inclusion of 22-year-old Ngog in the deal will prove an attractive benefit, although he has been a largely peripheral figure during his three seasons to date at Anfield.

Allowing Henderson to leave will add another item to the shopping list but significantly boost his transfer kitty, with owner Ellis Short remaining supportive but having reined in some of the rather less controlled spending of recent years.

However, it may not go down too well with fans who still blame Bent's shock departure for the club's slump during the second half of last season.

Liverpool have also been linked with Black Cats skipper Lee Cattermole in recent days, although it is unlikely that Bruce would be prepared to part with two members of his first-choice midfield.

Liverpool bidding on both Adam AND Henderson

Liverpool’s central midfield looks set for a shakeup with The Guardian reporting that the Reds’ £18million persuit of Sunderland’s Jordan Henderson does not end their interest in Blackpool’s Charlie Adam.

Liverpool are thought to be on the verge of agreeing a deal in the region of £18m-£20m for Henderson – a deal that could include David N’gog going to the Stadium of Light.

Reds officials are keen to tie up the deal before Henderson leaves with England’s U21 squad for the European Championships tomorrow (Wednesday).

Adam was linked with a move to Anfield in January, but Blackpool refused to let their captain go, before being relegated on the final day of the season.

Liverpool are thought to be offering around £8million for the Scot, but face competition from both Tottenham and Manchester United.

The Reds have also been linked with Black Cats defensive midfielder Lee Cattermole and Ipswich striker Connor Wickham.

Meanwhile the Reds are expected to tie up a £1million deal for Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni as back-up for Pepe Reina.

Liverpool and Arsenal keen on Blackburn and Birmingham men

    Last Updated: June 7, 2011 11:13pm

Skysports.com understands Arsenal and Liverpool are going head-to-head for defensive duo Phil Jones and Scott Dann.

Blackburn's versatile youngster Jones and Birmingham centre-back Dann are both thought to be top targets for the Gunners and Reds as they look to bolster their defensive options this summer.

Emirates chief Arsene Wenger has made a new central defender one of his top priorities, while Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish is looking to bolster his squad as he seeks to get the side back in the top four.

Jones, who has also been employed in midfield for Rovers, is thought to be both Arsenal and Liverpool's number one target.

The North London club have held a long-term interest in the England Under-21 international and had a bid rejected for Jones last summer.

The Gunners are thought to have made new enquiries for Jones, but Liverpool are ready to rival their Premier League counterparts for his signature.
    Dominant

Jones fits in with Liverpool's policy under new manager Kenny Dalglish and owners Fenway Sports Group to pursue young and preferably British talent.

However, both sides are also keen on dominant defender Dann and are ready to move for the 24-year-old following Birmingham's relegation.

Dann has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the country during the last two seasons and his absence in the heart of the Blues defence for the second half of last season through injury contributed to the club's eventual relegation.

The 6ft 2in Dann, who been likened to Alan Hansen and Tony Adams, is believed to be keen to stay in the Premier League and the lifelong Liverpool fan would jump at the chance of a move to Anfield if his boyhood heroes firmed up their interest.

With Jones valued in the region of £16million and Blackburn reluctant to lose the 19-year-old, Dann could find himself the preferred option of both Liverpool and Arsenal as he could represent better value for money option at £10million.
