As I scroll down the specs list of the new 20D, my heart beats quicker and quicker.... and my face breaks into a slight frown. Not AGAIN!!! A camera that kicks the ass out of my d100 which I bought less than a yr ago, and the worst thing is, its almost affordable.
But of course, the rational side of me would always play things down... "Hey, hey... take it easy mate, your d100 can produce superb images already... why bother". But of course..... there's another side with tiny horns sticking out of his head sniggering .. "eh... if u sell your camera now, and fork out a little more...... u can satisfy your desire". I hate it when good cameras arrive at prices u can actually afford. DOesnt help that there is the 10-22mm efs..... which is wider than what I could possibly do with a Nikon. Good is never enough .... greed is evil... damn... I'm evil then. I'm sure many of u feel that way too. Even, the 10d owners... (argh, no efs.. and my resale will plummet).

don't know, read about the performance of the raw buffer, basically 6 shots and its filled up and then its back to slow cf write speed.

When you drool and worry over new products after you've bought the current product, you'll never be able to benefit what you've started out to do in the first place.
Every product has a life cycle. You cannot control what will happen in the future pertaining to product evolvement. By restraining on what you have set out to achieve in the first place, you won't go anyway further if your desires to get the latest features (which has yet to be delivered). Just use your passion and drive to learn more about photography.

Totally agree. Can never catch up. Worst is that you decided on a particular brand, got every single gear, lens and accessories and then decided to switch brand, and start all over again!
If Nikon counter the 20D and come up with a yet better DSLR than the 20D, are you going to switch side again Marc? Never ending process. The one who laughs at you are the manufacturers and resellers. You should invest now on how to take better pictures with your current gear than thinking of the 20D Marc! Just my 2 cents. |

Since you are a Nikon user, just wait for the next offering from Nikon lar. May not happen in Photokina next month, maybe have to wait till next year.
Anyway, told you guys that the 20D will be lower than S$3k. ![]() |

Canon released the D30 in 2000 and the 1D in 2001. Since then, they have been consistently releasing two new dSLRs every year, with this year's offering being the 1dMkII and the 20D.
Of course, it will stop sometime, but i think it'll go on for another few years. Put things in perspective; there's no need to ga-ga over this one, there's be 4 more new Canon dSLRs in the next 2 years. |

that why i say b4...either u earn lotsa moolahs from assignments, or u LL reali need such a "powerfu;" camera to clear a certain assignment.... or u reali have lotsa cash to spare for this expensive hobby...then u reali can keep to the trend loh....
like Hps.... u keep updating.... the telcos will just be grinning and bringing even more new models to let u drool..... Its more marketing.....i just buy a 10D... heng i neva buy a new set.... if not i sure go knock my head on the wall...i dun have much loss....u can say that i eat sour grapes and stuff... for me... 10D is suitable for me .... at least for now... maybe whe time comes... got more moolahs.... then i surely will upgrade.... upgrade to MKIII or MKIIII... then more shiok.... me now concentrate on getting the "Ls" lenses... a better investment..... but If... and i say IF... canon come out wit EFS "L" lenses.... then i LL sure sell my 10D and get a 20D... and of course... the newer MKs.... ![]() |

now dilema... wanting to upgrade to the DSLR from the Sony F828... after reading the specs i was like... WOW!!! den KM Dynax 7D haven give its specs yet... only plus point is the built in image stabiliser on the body...
so i am wondering, i got an offer to sell my F828 with most of the equipment for about 2k+ den i get to upgrade to the DSLR... so should i get the 20D or... get 10D... but i damn like the 20D, cos F828 is a 8MP, den 20D also 8mp + 0.2mp... so break down... initial investment would be body about 3k... 17-?? efs lens for 500? den a vertical grip & a 580ex flash... think would be about 5k? WOW!!! just for hobby... think my gf killing me if she read tis... btw the lens kit is the same lens as the 300D 1 rite?

man.... u got a problem... i dunno abt the resale value of F828. i think prime at penin offers trade-in for digicams. if cannot sale, mebbe can try trading in? else, hold on to ur F828. it will still be useful on days when u dun feel like lugging ard all the DSLR gear! ![]()

no way lah, bro! cannot afford. there's no resale value now for my 300D. so, unless i sell, i can't afford it. most probably aiming for an old 10D later in the year.

It's all of 2mm wider for starters, which is not the be all and end all. And it's on a lens that you wouldn't then be able to use on a 1D-whatever should you then decide to upgrade further.
As I've been saying, it's 8mp which isn't really miles away from your 6mp. And aside from that, there's the fps rate. Nice to have, but the question I always ask is, what do you shoot that needs it? Factor in the cost of switching systems, and you're looking at all that for 2mp and 2fps and 2mm. I'd also seriously wait for Photokina to swing round before making any decisions. |

hmm.
if i'm really looking at something from another camp other than the canon camp, it'll be the fuji s3pro. pity it's nikon mount. the 20D is good.. but i don't foresee myself needing xxxxx FPS because i simply don't use it..

My oh my..... this was intended to be a light hearted thread.... and i got seriously bashed up. Well....., I currently have no intentions of switching, I'm just letting that little devil in me voice his opinions. Of course, the d100 is more than I would ever need for sometime.....
Take it easy people.... . And rest assure that I take shooting seriously, and I do shoot whenever I can... . Hey Jed, thanks for dropping by. I wont be hasty.

the angle of view of a non fisheye 10mm on a 1.6x crop = (96.43 degrees) 12mm on a 1.6x crop = (86.48 degrees) before I purchased my sigma 12-24, I did some research and according to what I heard, even a 8mm fish eye defished will not give you as wide as a rectilinear 12mm, besides, you lose resolution detail since you effectively crop the image further when you defish. |
