With the launch of the of two new and quite delicious EF-S lenses (optical quality pending), looks very much that Canon is committed to the 1.6X crop sensor as a long term fixture in their lower end DSLRs. At the same time, with the Mk2, 1.3X crop plus sensors look like they will continue to feature.
To me, this is no bad thing as I never see myself plumbing for a 7K+ pro level body, and as EF-S bodies still take EF lenses, you are spoilt for choice. So EF-S actually opens the door (hopefully) to wide-angle lenses on a 1.6X sensor in a consumer-affordable way. Any thoughts? |

I agree with you. It does open up a whole new range of affordable lens to the masses. The low end wide angle range has been the missing link for quite some time now and now the bridge is done. Cheap zooms have always been available but not wide and this is what many people is waiting for. Like you i don't think I will pay 7K for a body unless I have too much cash. Otherwise for a hobby I will stick with teh 1.6X crop factor.

I welcome choices
though D30, D60 and 10D owners might not be too happy with more EF-S lenses (if they don't fit on the cameras). |
