Default First person in Nikon forum to mention 20D

Well, the 10D replacement is the hottest topic in the Canon forum. This forum is not discussing it at all. So I thought I would do a search to see who is the first person on this forum to mention the 20D.

Step up Winston, who mentioned the 20D as long ago as May 2003 in this thread!!!

And guess who was the second to say "20D"? It was espn who said this in this thread!

I am only the third (see search results), and the first person to mention the news here since it leaked yesterday. A bit surprising, I thought you guys would take a bit of interest in what is happening on the other side of the pond.

You would have to be a very brave (or foolish) soul to mention the "C" word in this forum.... . You got your flame retardant jacket on yet?

Why not? I'm particularly interested in technology and be it either Canon or Nikon, I'm pretty glad both sides churn out new cameras, it keeps the competition and shows what each can do.

True. And after all, shouldn't it be the person and not the camera?

And the way that it is being touted or promoted, it seems to be a vacine for HIV or better than slice bread...

Hmm, well I did guess why nobody is talking about it here. I just wanted confirmation

nightwolf75, if you do a search you will see that I was quite enthusiastic when the D70 was released. I said back then (just as I say now): let C and N take turns leapfrogging each other. If the new 20D goes on the market for SGD$2600 it will exert a very strong downward pressure on the price of the D70 and the 300D, and you will find a lot of cheap secondhand DSLR's on the market. So who wins? We do, of course!

If the D200 (or whatever it's called) manages to top the 20D, it will make DSLR's even more affordable. I don't care whichever company happens to be sitting at the top of the hill - if it means I can spend less money for better and better features then I am happy.

did you also happen to go and do a search to see who was first to mention d200, d70, or d3 over on the other side of the pond?

This is very true (the pricing thing). Just look at the number of people selling 10D's and 300D's in the forum right now and the prices they are asking for. Looking over at the Canon thread, it seems that the pricing for the 20D might very well be much lower than the 10D and come close (within $500) to that of a D70. With the capabilities of the 20D at a close to D70 pricepoint, Nikon might very well have to revise pricing strategies for their new offerings at Photokina (if any!), and we Nikon users would stand to gain too.
