Hiya Nikon Snipers,
For those who have used both lens, what are the pros and cons when we pit the above 2 lens together? My intention is to buy a prime for portraits in studio and also external. I know there are many reviews abt these lens out there but I sucks at google, cannot find one which compare one against the other. The fact that both are wonderful lenses but too many things to buy and yet so little $, so gotta choose only one So hoping to seek some advice from pple who actually have experiences in both lenses. Appreciate your kind advice. Thanks ![]() |

I don't use these lenses.
But perhaps you may try www.photographyreview.com. This gives reviews of lenses and other equipment from a user point of view. Sometimes even comparison if the user have both lenses in question. Good luck! |

Ha me too. I was looking at this 2 lens for the same purpose. I believe 85mm has a much sharper image. The recommened potrait lens is between 85mm-105mm. If you are using Nikon digital, I think 85mm will be a better choice because your 85mm will effectively be 120mm while your 105 becomes 150mm. Also it depend on the sice of your indoor studio

if i m not wrong, i think the 105 F2DC is a better lens than the 85. the DC stands for Defocus Control. you can guess what u can do with it.
one of those very nice bokeh lens. |

Have owned and used the following four lenses:
85/1.4AFD 105/2 DC 135/2 DC and 70-200VR Of the four, I most prefer the "bokeh" of the 85/1.4. The image sharpness is much the same in prints. It boils down to your purpose/application. This range of lenses are specific in their application. The 70-200VR is useful for most scenarios but is limited by its applicability out in the field due to its size. There are so many discussions on many other forums so just do a search to check for more opinions. My personal opinion: sharpness - 85/1.4 > 105/2DC > 70-200VR > 135/2DC Quality of image bokeh - 85/1.4 > 70-200VR at 200mm > 105/2 DC > 135/2DC > 70-200VR at 70mm. Now I just own the 85 and 70-200VR. The DC was useful only in limited scenarios. |

Hi,
it's no prob. These questions pop up occasionally and I hope there are others willing to chip in their opinions as well. It is important to know what equipment there is out there and whether you should save up to invest in the higher end ones or not, based on others' practical experience with them. Hope I helped a little. |
