    Damn it...
    I tried the Sigma 50mm 1.4 when I still owned the Nikon 1.4G- sold my Nikon thinking I will just go for the Sigma. But the arrival if the 1.8G changed my plan.

    The Sigma is delicious- especially with the big 77mm front element (just like the look).

If not compared side by side, I doubt I could really tell the difference between the two lenses in terms of Bokeh. Heck, I suspect that if I add my previously owned 1.4G into the mix- it's even harder for me to tell the difference.
    Yes. I agreed. Don't waste money to buy the 1.8g if u already have 1.8d. Can't tell the different in bokeh or sharpness.

    But the Sigma 1.4 is a bokehlicious gem, you should count your blessings and enjoy your new lens.

    I sold off my 1.8D to get the 1.8G as the sharpness is much sharper than the 1.8D and better bokeh than 1.8D

    I went down to nikon center n test the Len then ask the pro. There nothing different bout sharpness but only G version got motor while D no. So, G will operate focus faster than D and prefer to use in low light condition.

    am impressed by this lens so far. the 35mm. however, it has some problem focusing at low light with my D300. I never had a problem with the 50 1.8D in the same situation. makes me wonder if the aFS is really so bad.

    another. =)

    Bokeh is not too bad, without distinct halo around the ring, t

    Think better then the 50mm f1.8D (as shown below?), but its not a direct fair judgement due to distance. Just a rough comparison.

    Just for comparison, this is the 85 1.4D bokeh of the same light source (my modem)=p

    Am hoping to see more of the 50mm f1.8G output. But also interested to know how good it locks focus in low light....the 35 is a little bit disappointing in that aspect although when it hits, it is super razor sharp.

    my 50mm 1.4G made in china is sharp wide open at 1.4, dunno why so many bros here have problem with it wide open.

    Some people tested this lens at wide open f1.4 when their hand shake or not enough good light, then concluded that the lens is soft at wide open. But some maybe bad copies as well, depend on your luck.

    Actually at F1.4, without OS and in low light condition, the DOF is so thin that a slight movement will cause the picture to be blur or OOF.

    If really want to compare sharpness, put them on tripod and with same lighting condition.

    Bought one this evening. Paid $285 inc GST. Neat little light weight lens. This thing focus faster than my 35 f/1.4G.
